ESF welcomes three new Board members

We would like to welcome three new Board members, Christine Meaney, Shareen Hellen and Bob Priest to the ESF Board of Governors. Francis Carroll has been re-elected as parent member for another three-year term.

Christine Meaney is replacing Christine Brendle as representative of the Committee of Parents. Bob Priest is representing the Committee of Support Staff replacing Joanne Bowers. Shareen Hellen is a directly elected parent member replacing Connie Liu.

We wish the new Board members the best in their coming term of office. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Christine, Joanne and Connie for their invaluable support to the Board and to ESF over the years.

Kowloon Learning Campus

At the meeting on Monday 28 November, 2016 the ESF Board of Governors considered a review of the Kowloon Learning Campus pilot scheme. The Board considered feedback and available evidence from the current trial of an integrated schools’ management structure for the three schools at the Kowloon Learning Campus. The Board’s decision is that the approach should not extend beyond the current pilot phase which comes to an end in June 2017. This decision will provide time for ESF to recruit to fill vacancies in the posts of principal at both Kowloon Junior School and King George V School ahead of the new school session, 2017/18.

Board members acknowledged the positive impact of work carried out to increase inclusion across the schools involved in the Kowloon Learning Campus. Board members also welcomed the deep professional collaboration achieved over the first 18 months of the pilot. The Board further agreed that schools should build on the success of the pilot, led and managed through partnership working within a traditional leadership structure of a principal for each school.

The ESF Board acknowledged the high degree of professional commitment to the aims of the pilot from staff involved, recognising that they had invested time and willingly engaged in collaboration, beyond conventional liaison arrangements, to explore better ways of working in order to enhance students’ learning experiences.

The pilot will continue to June 2017 and the leadership structures currently in place for the three schools will continue till the end of the school year.

ESF Counsellor wins Future Leader Award

She has demonstrated strong leadership potential and brought her advocacy and counselling skills from a broad range of professional practice as well as school settings to her role.

This is the second time an ESF counsellor has been honoured by CIS - with Martin Campion (who will be retiring from South Island School this year) having been awarded the prestigious Peggy Templeton Strong Award in 2010.
